HARD DISC DRIVE MEDIA SHIPPING COMB

Application: Disc Media Shipping Comb

Recommendation: PLASCO TAP 004
Acetal Copolymer + 20% PTFE

Solution: Used to separate the actual disc media in a hard disc drive during shipping offshore, the customer's initial design called for metal pins to be inserted into the plastic part.

The use of TAP 004 was found to provide very accurate mold shrinkage and dimensional stability so that a re-design to mold in the pins was accomplished.

With excellent wear characteristics and low coefficients of friction, the all plastic molded combs out performed the machined plastic / metal pin assembly.

Costs went down and lot-to-lot accuracy improved for this customer.
